LEXINGTON, Ky. – Indiana scored a goal in each half to claim a 2-0 winover the Kentucky women’s soccer team at the UK Soccer Complex,Sunday. With the loss, UK falls to 8-11-1, while Indiana improved to11-8-0.
The game was the last at home for Kentucky seniors Kim LaBelle,Megan May, Brittany Mobley, and Alison Rooney, who were honoredbefore the game.
IU got what proved to be the game-winner 10 minutesfrom halftime when Kris Fosdick’s shot squeezed through the hands ofKentucky goalkeeper Carrie Kuhnell and trickled over the goalline, puttingthe Hoosiers up 1-0.
Despite bad weather conditions, UK mounted acomeback but were denied a goal by IU goalkeeper Merit Elzey. TheHoosiers added an insurance goal in the 67th minute when Emily Etzkorn’sshot found the right side of the net from 18 yards out.
“Its tough to lose your final game at home,” UK head coach Warren Lipkasaid. “We just have to get ready to play Auburn next week in the SECTournament.”
Next up for UK is the first round of the Southeastern ConferenceTournament next Thursday in Gainesville, Fla. Kentucky faces Auburn in thefirst round and is paired in the same bracket as Arkansas and arch-rivalVanderbilt, who will meet on Thursday as well. The top half of the brackethas Alabama meeting Georgia, while Florida faces Ole Miss.
