LEXINGTON, Ky. — Washington State scored two first half goals andwithstood several Kentucky scoring chances, as the Cougars claimed a 2-0 winover the Wildcats at the UK Soccer Complex, Sunday. With the loss,Kentucky falls to 5-6-1, while Washington State improves to 6-5-0 overall.

Washington State got what would prove to be game-winner in the 13th minuteas Kimberly Schelpf took a pass from Randi Glass and scored from 16 yards.The Cougars added the final goal in the 25th minute as Deka DeWitt’s 35-yardblast found the back of the Kentucky net. “This is a disappointing loss,especially after the way we have been playing lately,” Kentucky head coachWarren Lipka said. “We just have to continue to work hard at practice and getready for two more tough games this weekend.”

Kentucky held an 11-4 advantage in shots and had several scoringopportunities, though none could get past Washington State goalkeeperShannon Wilson. The Wildcats also had an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.Kentucky returns to the road this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Cincinnatito take on the Bearcats, Friday night. UK then travels to Lincoln, Neb. to takeon 10th-ranked Nebraska, Sunday.
