LAS VEGAS – The UK men’s soccer team suffered only its second loss thisseason, falling to Fresno State in the UNLV Classic 3-2 on Sunday night.
Fresno State’s Ron Davis scored just two and a half minutes into the matchto put the Bulldogs up 1-0, but Wildcat senior Billy Dwyer knotted the scoreat the 30:29 mark. Then FSU’s Chad Brown and Davis each scored a goalin a 90-second span to put the Bulldogs up 3-1. Wildcat freshman MattMcDevitt put in a shot to bring the Cats within a goal five minutes beforehalftime, but the 3-2 score would prove to be the final result as neither teamcould find the net during the second half. The Cats were outshot for only thethird time this year as Fresno State had nine attempts at the goal to UK’sfive. UK freshman Brian O,Leary had five saves in the game.
Kentucky is now 5-2-1 on the year, and Fresno State improves to 4-3-1.The Wildcats next see action on Thursday as they travel to Bloomington,Ind., to face the No.1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers at 7:30 p.m.
