Men's Soccer

The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team shut out Western Michigan,3-0, in its Mid-American Conference opener in Kalamazoo, Mich., onFriday.

The victory broke the Broncos’ five-game non-losing streak. Freshman MattMcDevitt paced the Wildcats with a goal and an assist. He netted a shot atthe 38:05 mark to put the Cats up 1-0. Sean Mondelli and Jamie Schuereach added a goal in the second half, and freshman Brent Rainey contributedtwo assists.

Western Michigan managed only seven shots, while Kentucky recorded 26.With the win, UK improves to 7-3-1, 1-0 in the MAC. The Broncos fall to4-2-2, 0-1.

The Wildcats next see action on Sunday, Oct. 5, when they travel to faceNorthern Illinois in DeKalb.
