LEXINGTON, Kty. — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer teamsuffered its first Mid-American Conference loss of the season on Sunday,falling to Akron 1-0 at home.
In a game marked by heavy rain and sloppy field conditions, play wasdelayed in the 59th minute due to lightning. When play resumed, Akron’sMichael Apple netted a goal off a corner kick at the 85:24 mark. TheWildcats failed to score.
Both teams combined took only 11 shots, and goalkeepers Akron’s BillWahl and UK’s Brian O’Leary each recorded four saves. With the loss, UKdrops to 11-4-2 on the season, 5-1 in the MAC. Akron improves to 12-4-1and 5-1 in the MAC to tie the Wildcats for the conference lead.
UK next sees action on Wednesday when it travels to Vanderbilt. The Catsplay their last regular-season game on Nov. 2 when they face MAC foeMiami.
