Men’s soccer ties program record with postseason honors.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 10, 1999) — The University ofKentucky men’s soccer team tied a program recordon Friday, placing three players on the NationalSoccer Coaches Association of America’sAll-Mid-East Region team.
For the second consecutive season, Wildcats LeeBaker, Giovanni Fernandes and Ilkka Jantti wereselected to the 33-member squad. Baker, a seniorfrom Spring, Texas, led the Cats in scoring thisseason with seven goals and eight assists.Fernandes, from Cricuma, Brazil, tallied twogame-winning goals during his junior campaign,while Jantti, a sophomore defender from Lahti,Finland, helped anchor a UK defense whichallowed less than one goal per match.
“We’re happy that our players are being recognizedon this level,” UK Coach Ian Collins said. “Lee hadan amazing career here at UK, and Ilkka and Giojust continue to improve.”
Since 1993, UK has placed 15 players on theNSCAA Regional squad.
