Men down Eastern Michigan, 1-0.

DeKALB, Ill. (Nov. 5, 1999) — The University of Kentucky men’ssoccer team advanced to the semifinals of theMid-American Conference Tournament on Friday,topping Eastern Michigan 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, UK defender Rob Freyscored the game-winner less than three minutes intothe second stanza, netting a five-yard shot off aGiovanni Fernandes pass at 47:23.

Keeper Brian O’Leary had a strong outing for theCats, saving two shots while posting his seventhshutout of the season.

“These first-round matches are always tough,” UKCoach Ian Collins said. “We’re just happy to bemoving on.”

With the win, UK improves to 11-6-1, while EMUfinishes its season at 6-13. The Wildcats advance toface Western Michigan (2-14-3), 2-1 upsetwinners over top seed Akron. Kickoff is set for12:30 p.m. at the Huskie Soccer Field.
