Wildcats are in five-way tie for first place in the SEC.
LEXINGTON, Kty. (Jan. 19, 2000) — The University of Kentuckywomen’s basketball team will play host to No. 14Louisiana State on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. TheSoutheastern Conference matchup will be televisedlive on Fox Sports South.
Both teams are coming off a win over leagueopponent Arkansas last week, as Kentucky won itsthird-straight home game, 68-60, on Sunday inMemorial Coliseum. LSU (12-3, 3-1) alsodefeated the Lady ‘Backs, winning 82-69 inFayetteville on Jan. 13. The Lady Tigers otherconference wins came against No. 2 Georgia inAthens (80-74) and No. 20 Mississippi State(61-54) at home.
The Wildcats (11-5, 3-1) are in a five-way tie forfirst place in the SEC and look to extend theirone-game win streak over the Lady Tigers. UKdefeated nationally-ranked LSU last season in thequarterfinals of the SEC tournament (81-72) afterlosing in regular season action, 67-59, in BatonRouge.
“LSU is a tough, tough team, but we are capable ofplaying with any team in the country if we continueto focus and play consistently,” UK CoachBernadette Mattox said. “This conference is brutaland every opponent we meet will be a battle.”
The Lady Tigers are led by last season’s SECCoach of the Year, Sue Gunter. The 36th-yearveteran coach is now only the fourth coach inwomen’s basketball history to win 600 games in acareer, picking up her 600th win versus Arkansas.
