Wildcats face Vanderbilt in Nashville Thursday.
LEXINGTON, Kty. (Jan. 12, 2000) — The University of Kentuckywomen’s basketball team looks to extend itsthree-game win steak when it travels to Nashvilleon Thursday, Jan. 13 to take on Vanderbilt inMemorial Gym at 8 p.m. ET. The game will betelevised live on College Sports Southeast but is notavailable in the Lexington area.
The Wildcats (10-4, 2-0 Southeastern Conference)enter Thursday’s game looking for its fourth straightwin and third straight conference victory afterdefeating fifth-ranked Auburn on Thursday andFlorida on Monday. UK also looks to chart its firstwin over Vanderbilt in Nashville in 14 years. TheCats’ last win in the Music City was on Feb. 5,1986, 79-70. Last season, Kentucky snapped anine-game losing streak to Vanderbilt, winning anemotional battle in Lexington, 70-69. Before thatwin, UK had not beaten VU since Jan. 20, 1991(80-63).
“Vanderbilt always has a tough basketball team,”UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “They areplaying very well right now and are leading theconference in field goal percentage. We are goingto have to get after it on defense and keep them offthe boards.”
The Commodores are 13-2, 1-0 in the SEC afterdefeating Ole Miss on Sunday, 60-38. They areriding a 12-game win streak and are 7-0 whenplaying in Memorial Gym. The Commodores’ twolosses this season came on the road in lateNovember to nationally-ranked Purdue and Duke.
The Cats return home on Sunday, Jan. 16 versusArkansas at 3 p.m., in the SEC’s Game of the Week. It will be televised liveon Fox Sports South. Sunday’s game also marks the return of many UKwomen’s basketball alumni, including All-American and current WNBAplayer Valerie Still, as they celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Kentuckywomen’s basketball.
