Wildcats take on Ole Miss Thursday in Oxford.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2000) — The University of Kentuckywomen’s basketball team plays its third game in fivedays when it travels to Oxford, Miss., on Thursday,Feb. 24 to take on Ole Miss at 8 p.m. ET. Thegame will be broadcast on WLXG-AM SportsRadio 1300 from C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.

The Wildcats (13-12, 8-6 SoutheasternConference) look to continue their winning ways onthe last regular season road trip, after defeatingnon-conference opponent Louisville on Tuesday,75-65, in Lexington. For the fourth time in the lastfive games, UK put four players in double-figures.Shantia Owens and McDole charteddouble-doubles, scored 18 points apiece andgrabbing 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively. TiffanyWait added 15 while Erica Jackson 12.

The Cats haven’t won in Oxford, Miss., since an87-81 decision in 1991. Prior to last year’s winover the Lady Rebels in the first round of theSoutheastern Conference tournament, Kentuckyhad not beaten Ole Miss in eight tries. The Cats are1-7 in Oxford.

“Playing on the road in this conference is alwaystough,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “OleMiss is no pushover either. They will come outready to play because they are looking for their firstconference win. They have come close to beatingthree nationally-ranked teams and we need to comeout the aggressor in this game.”

The Lady Rebels are 11-14 overall, 0-12 in theSEC. Ole Miss lost its 12th straight conferencegame of the season with a 67-63 loss tonationally-ranked Auburn on Sunday. Leading scorer Frankie Boyd washeld to only two points in the loss, but three Lady Rebels scored in doublefigures. Junior guard Chandra Dorsey led the team with 19 points whilejunior guards Becky Myatt and Stephanie Murphy added 18 and 10 points,respectively.

The Cats are led by McDole who averages 12.0 points per game. Alsonetting double digits this season is junior Laura Meadows (11.5 ppg) andErica Jackson (11.4 ppg). Meadows is only 10 points shy of becoming the21st Wildcat to record 1,000 points in a career.
