LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Vanderbilt baseball team ended the 2000 season with an 11-1loss to the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.

The Commodores end the year with a 21-33 overall and 5-24Southeastern Conference record.

Kentucky improved to 37-18-1, 12-16-1 in the SEC. The UK victorysecured a spot in the SEC Tournament as the Wildcats were dependent ona loss by Ole Miss. Kentucky will be the eighth seed in the tournamentand make its fourth straight appearance in the tourney.

The Wildcats opened a scoreless game in the top of the fourth.Beau Moore led off the inning with a triple to left center and made hisway across the plate when VU short stop Ulises Cabrera made a throwingerror. John Wilson then reached base on a double to left field. AaronMcGlone gave UK a 2-0 advantage when he drove in Wilson on a double ofhis own. Kentucky went up 3-0 on a ground out RBI by Robert Newton.

Vanderbilt scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of thesixth. Ashley Freeman hit a solo home run to left field, his sixthhomer of the season bringing the score to 3-1.

From there on out, Kentucky took control of the game scoringeight runs in the last three innings of play. Andy Green hit a solohome run to left field in the seventh. In the eighth, the Wildcatstallied five runs on six hits for the 9-1 lead. McGlone led off with adouble to left center field. Vince Harrison then singled puttingrunners on first and third. Both scored on a single to left field byNewton. UK went up 7-1 on a RBI single from Breck Price. Another homerun by Green, this time a two-run blast, put UK in control, 9-1.Kentucky added two runs in the top of the ninth when VU reliever JeffLittle walked Jeff Meade with bases loaded and gave up a sacrifice flyRBI to Green.

Rob Corrado (5-2) earned the win for Kentucky pitching 7 1/3innings. He allowed just one run on eight hits. Josh Paxton and JohnHooker relieved Corrado for the final 1 2/3 innings. They would allowno runs, while Hooker gave up just one hit.

Vanderbilt’s Damon Yee (5-7) took the loss after allowing nineruns off of 11 hits in 7 2/3 innings of work.

Vanderbilt was led at the plate by Karl Nonemaker. He went3-for-3 on the day.

Kentucky’s Beau Moore was an impressive 3-for-6, while four otherWildcats, Green, McGlone, Newton and Price, had two hits each.
