Wildcats add kicking specialist to roster.
LEXINGTON, Kty. – Clint Ruth, a kicking specialist from White House (Tenn.) High School, has signed a scholarship offer to play football for the University of Kentucky.
Ruth will enter UK in the fall and compete for the kickoff, field goal, and extra point duties. He also has experience as a punter and gives the team more depth at that position.
“Clint has a really strong leg, as most of his kickoffs went into or through the end zone,” Coach Hal Mumme said. “He’s also a very good student. We’re excited about having him here.”

Clint Ruth, Kicker, 6-1, 180, Fr-HS, White House, Tenn. (White House) – First-team all-state kicker by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association as a senior at White House (Tenn.) HS … Also chosen to the All-Mid-State Team by the Nashville Tennessean and was the Special Teams Player of the Year in his region … Handled kickoffs for three years and took over the field goal, extra point, and punting duties as a senior, following the graduation of another all-state kicker … Put 87 of 186 kickoffs into the end zone during his career, including 47 of 59 as a senior … Made eight of 13 field goals as a senior, 33 of 39 extra points, and punted for a 36-yard average … Of his five field goal misses, four came on attempts of more than 40 yards … Made his only field goal attempt as a junior, a career-best 51-yarder in the semifinals of the state playoffs … Also made two extra point tries that year … Helped his team advance to the Class AAA state playoffs all three years, including a state championship his sophomore year and a trip to the state semifinals as a junior … Team compiled a three-year record of 36-5 … Came in second place in a kicking competition in the Georgia Dome at the 1999 Florida-Georgia All-Star Game … Coached by Jeff Porter, who said, “Clint has strong character and he has been battle-tested in high-pressure situations.
