Junior hit .583 in four-game sweep of Tennessee.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 8, 2000) — University of Kentucky softballplayer Leslie Kwiatkowski was named theSoutheastern Conference Player of the Week theSEC office announced today.
Kwiatkowski, a junior from South Bend, Ind., led theCats to a four-game sweep over the Tennessee LadyVols last week as UK captured its first SEC EasternDivision title since the program began in 1997.
“Leslie definitely deserved to win the award, not onlyfor her performance this week but for her offensiveoutput all year long,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said.
Kwiatkowski hit .583 (7-12) on the week with five RBI,four runs, one double, one triple, and her fourth homerun of the season. Her two-run homer in the fourthinning of the third game against UT, gave the Cats a2-1 lead. She broke the UK single-season records forbatting average (.405), runs scored (43), hit (79), andRBI (50).
