LEXINGTON, Kty. – University of Kentucky sophomore Tayshaun Prince underwent successful surgery today to clear his nasal cavities at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Opthamologist Robert Baker, M.D., and Ears, Nose and Throat specialist Richard Haydon, M.D., performed the surgery this morning to relieve nasal and sinus blockage caused by chronic swollen membranes, better known as polyps.

“He should make a full recovery,” Dr. Haydon said, following the lengthy procedure.

Prince led the Wildcats in scoring this season, averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

“This will relieve the sinus pressure he’s been battling and, according to his doctors, he could possibly gain some additional endurance and stamina,” UK coach Tubby Smith said.

Prince is the second Wildcat to undergo offseason surgery. Fellow sophomore Todd Tackett underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, April 18, to repair worn cartilage under his kneecap. He’s expected to make a complete recovery and is nearing full strength now, according to the UK medical staff.
