RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Kentucky completed competition Friday,April 21, at the Triangle Area Challenge on the campus of Eastern KentuckyUniversity.

Fighting the cold and rain, the Wildcats fared rather well against teamsfrom Louisville, Cincinnati and EKU. On the day, UK claimed 15 top-fivefinishes, including eight firsts and four seconds.

Leading the way for the Cats were freshman Simidele Adeagbo and seniorRoshell Russell. Adeagbo started her first 100-meter dash of the season andclaimed first place with a time of 12.19. Russell took first in the400-meters crossing the line in 54.42. Other first-place finishers for thewomen included Michelle Williams in the 100-meter hurdles (14.04), juniorShevan Threats in the long jump (18-00.00) and the 4×100-meter relay teamof Williams, Russell, Adeagbo and Threats (46.35).

The men’s squad was again led by three-time All-American Matt Kavanagh.The senior easily won the hammer throw with a distance of 171-10.00, morethan 16 feet further than the runner-up. Junior Jude Hammond crossed theline in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.80, taking first-place honors.While in the discus, sophomore Joe Varney’s toss of 148-11.00 was goodenough for the top spot.

Kentucky’s next challenge will be a tough one indeed as the Cats travel toPhiladelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays, April 27-29.
