LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky softball team will play host to the WesternKentucky Lady Toppers on Thursday, April 20 at the UK Softball Complex. Thedoubleheader will begin at 6 p.m.
“Western Kentucky has had a very good first season,” UK coach BethKirchner said. “It is important that we come out ready to play becausegames against schools within the state are always intense.”
WKU (24-18-1), in its first season with varsity softball, is led byfreshman shortstop Sara Alanis, who owns the top batting average on thesquad at .368. Alanis also leads the Lady Toppers in doubles (13), RBIs(25), slugging percentage (.575), and on-base percentage (.427). AmberGarlington is WKU’s top hurler with a 15-10 record this season with fourshutouts and 191 strikeouts.
Leslie Kwiatkowski continues to lead UK (26-22) at the plate, hitting .397with eight doubles, four triples, three home runs, and 38 RBIs. The SouthBend, Ind., native has swiped 22 bases for the Cats, who lead theSoutheastern Conference Eastern Division with an 8-8 record.
