LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field squads facetheir next hurdle of the outdoor season at the 34th Annual Sea Ray Relays,April 13-15, on Tom Black Track at the University of Tennessee.
Senior Jeff Limpert and freshmen Chad Johnson, and ThomasMorgan will return to the track after their stellar showing at the TexasRelays a week ago. The quartet showed that UK has a talented stable of800-meter runners by winning the 4×800-meter relay in Austin, Texas.Earlier this season Limpert established a personal best in the 800 at anSoutheastern Conference Quad meet at Auburn, missing the NCAA provisionalqualifying time by a mere .01 seconds. In that same meet, Johnson broke theUK freshman 800-meter record.
Even with that success in the relay, these Cats will be taking a differentapproach this weekend.
“At Texas, it was about running the relay,” Head Coach Don Weber said.”They had a really good showing, but at Tennessee, we want to focus on theindividual events to work on those times. We really won’t get back to therelay again until the Penn Relays. It’s about the individual this week.”
With that in mind, Limpert and Johnson will see action in the 800-meterrun as Spencer and Morgan move up to the 1,500-meter run. SophomoreTemitayo Adeagbo will get the Cats started with the final events of theheptathlon Thursday, April 13. Then UK gets under way in earnest withcompetitors in 18 events on Friday, April 14, while finishing up with twoon Saturday.
