TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Cats won five of the six singles matches and the doubles point.
The Tide forced the Cats to three sets in four of the six their singles matches. Johan Hesoun, ranked 75th in the nation, upset 30th-ranked Francisco Rodriguez, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, at the No. 1 position. After dropping the first set, 23rd-ranked Carlos Drada managed to defeat 54th-ranked Maxim Belski, 5-7, 7-1, 6-2. Also picking up wins for the Cats were Gustav Pousette, Edo Bawono and Johan Grunditz.
In doubles, the Cats swept past Alabama, picking up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. No. 1 doubles was suspended after the Cats earned the doubles point.
The Cats (11-11, 4-5 SEC) return home for their final two regular-season matches of the season. Kentucky plays host to Louisiana State on April 14 and South Carolina on April 16. Both matches are slated to begin at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
