LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team earned another SEC win on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Vanderbilt, 7-0, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Cats are now 9-9 (3-4 SEC).

The doubles team of Gustav Pousette and Johan Grunditz breezed past Vanderbilt’s Brad Hambrick and Andrew Nisker, 8-1. At the No. 2 position, Johan Hesoun and Edo Bawono earned their first win since switching partners on March 28 against Tennessee, making their record 1-2, both in league play and overall. Carlos Drada and Reven Stephens defeated Anders Oding and Josh Tarkoff in the toughest doubles match of the day. After several rallies, Drada and Stephens eventually defeated the opponent, 8-6.

In singles action, the Cats were victorious in all six matches. No. 75 Hesoun, playing No. 1, defeated Ben McGugin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Also picking up straight set wins for the Cats were Drada, Pousette and Bawono. Grunditz and Stephens both won their matches when Vanderbilt retired.

“This win was good for us,” Coach Dennis Emery said. “Any win in the SEC is great, and I am happy with the way the guys played today. Now we have to prepare ourselves for a big match against Louisville.”

The Cats will take a break from league play when they take on No. 47 Louisville on April 4 and No. 6 Illinois on April 6 at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
