ATHENS, Ga. – The UK softball team swept the Georgia Bulldogs Saturdayafternoon at the Women’s Sports Complex as the Cats posted back-to-backshutouts. UK won the first game 3-0 and took the second game 2-0.
The Cats won three of the four games in the series, giving UK its firstever four-game series victory.
UK (21-17, 5-3 SEC) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on AngieDal Pozzo two-run double to left center, scoring Jen Howland from third andLeslie Kwiatkowski from second. In the fifth inning, Nikki Jones scored fromthird base on a throwing error by UGA shortstop Michelle Tyree as the Catscaptured the opener, 3-0.
Hurler Keary Camunas, who struck out six batters, improved to 12-9 withher fifth shuout of the season, while UGA pitcher Natalie Price fell to 10-7.Dal Pozzo led the Cats at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and twoRBIs.
In the second game, UK designated player Colleen Boddy hit her firstcareer home run in the third inning, a solo blast to left field, and the Catsadded another run in the seventh on Dal Pozzo’s RBI-single as UK went on to a2-0 victory.
UK pitcher Morgan Marr threw a two-hitter and earned her second careershutout while improving to 4-3. UGA’s Raquel Castillo dropped to 7-11 withthe loss.
UK returns to action on Wednesday, April 5 when the Cats travel toLouisville to face the Cardinals in a doubleheader, beginning at 6 p.m. Thesecond game is set for 8 p.m.
