LEXINGTON, Kty. – The UK softball team split a doubleheader with the Louisville CardinalsWednesday evening at the UK Softball Complex. Highlighted by Morgan Marr’sfirst career shutout, the Cats scored a 3-0 victory over UL in the secondgame, while the Cards grabbed a 2-0 win in the first game.

UK (18-16, 2-2 SEC) jumped on the board in the second game when LeslieKwiatkowski stole third base and scored on UL catcher Christina Soto’sthrowing error, giving the Cats a 1-0 lead. The Cats added two insuranceruns in the sixth on Angie Dal Pozzo’s two-run single that scoredKwiatkowski and Jen Howland as UK went on to a 3-0 victory.

Marr struck out two batters, while improving to 3-2 on the season. ULpitcher Tara McClure dropped to 10-4 with the loss, despite recording eightstrikeouts.

In the first game, UK left eight runners on base including the basesloaded in the first inning and were unable to get on the board as the Cardscaptured a 2-0 victory. UL used the sixth inning to score the game’s onlytwo runs.

Howland led the Cats at the plate, going 2-for-3, as UK managed just threehits in the game. Dal Pozzo recorded UK’s other hit. UK hurler KearyCamunas dropped to 10-9, while UL’s Jessica Rak improved to 12-4.

“Morgan Marr pitched a great game tonight in getting her first careershutout,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “The Louisville pitchers did a goodjob of keeping us off balance. We need to get our bats hot heading into ourbig weekend series with Georgia.”

UK will travel to Athens, Ga. for back-to-back doubleheaders against theGeorgia Bulldogs on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The first gameFriday is set for 5 p.m. (EST) with the second game slated for 7 p.m.
