Men's Tennis

March 28, 2000

In frigid conditions at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex, the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team was shut out by the Tennessee Volunteers, 4-0. The Vols swept the doubles and won three of the singles matches before the match was suspended.

In the singles matches, No. 27 Mark Parsons, No. 55 Adam Carey and Mark Fitzpatrick all picked up straight-set wins for the Vols before the match was called. Gustav Pousette fell to Carey at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4, in his first SEC loss. Playing at the No. 2 position, No. 62 Johan Hesoun was leading Tate Roberts, 5-1, in the second set after dropping the first in a tiebreaker.

“Tennessee was really good,” Coach Dennis Emery said. “They played better in adverse conditions, they were better mentally and they deserved to win.”

The Cats are now 8-8, 2-2 SEC. They will play Georgia on Sunday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
