LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UK softball team swept the Auburn Tigers, 4-3 and 10-6, in the Cats’Southeastern Conference series opener, pushing its school-record winningstreak to seven games. The Cats have won 10 out of their last 11 games.

Junior slugger Leslie Kwiatkowski was a combined 6-for-8 at the plate withsix RBIs, two stolen bases, and three runs scored. Freshman Lyndsey Anguswas 5-for-8 with an RBI, while scoring four runs. Beth Fogle added fivehits for the Cats, who outhit Auburn, one the league’s top three hittingteams, 16-7 in the first game and 13-9 in the second game.

Auburn took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, however UK (17-13,2-0 SEC) responded with three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Kwiatkowski singledto center, scoring Fogle from second base, and Angie Dal Pozzo hit into afielders choice, scoring Angus from third. Andrea Eilertson’s sacrifice flyscored Kwiatkowski, capping UK’s three-run third inning.

The Tigers tied the game in the top of the sixth when first baseman MaryPetrie scored from third on a throwing error by Angus. Once again, the Catsresponded to the Auburn rally. Angus, who doubled to left center, scored onKwiatkowski’s RBI-triple to break the tie and give UK a 4-3 victory overAuburn.

UK hurler Keary Camunas improved to 9-7 with the win. Petrie, who came into relieve starter Jaime Rasmussen in the bottom of the third, took theloss, dropping her record to 3-1.

In the second game, UK roared out to a 10-0 lead in the bottom of thesecond inning. The Cats scored four runs in the first and added six in thesecond inning.

Auburn (22-14, 2-6) pushed two runs across in the third, fourth, and fifthinning, cutting the Cats’ advantage to 10-6. Camunas, who started the gameand was relieved in the third inning by Jennifer Howland, returned to pitchthe final two inning without allowing a run. Camunas, who has won her lastseven consecutive starts, improved to 10-7, just four wins shy of her ownschool mark for wins in a season.

Every UK batter recorded a hit in the game as Nikki Jones, Fogle, Angus,and Kwiatkowski tallied three hits apiece and scored two runs each. TiffanyKruse tied the school record with her sixth triple of the season and addeda RBI.

“We are very happy to get two SEC wins,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “Wehit the ball extremely well in both games, and we got two great pitchingperformances from Keary Camunas.”

UK will play host to the 14th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday,March 25, at the UK Softball Complex. The first game of the doubleheader isset for 2 p.m., while the second game is slated for 4 p.m.
