LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team heads to Florida this week for its annual spring break trip. The two-week trip will see the Wildcats play a pair of tournaments in the Sunshine State. The first outing is March 11-12 at the Spring Shores Invitational and also will compete at the El Diablo Invitational, March 20-21, with both events taking place in Ocala.
The Spring Shores Invitational the first tournament action for UK in nearly a month. The Cats will be looking to improve on a last place finish in its previous outing at the Gator Invitational, Feb. 12-13.
“Our finish is deceiving because we only had four players able to compete,” coach Steve Smitha said. “The guys who we had playing had pretty good tournaments and with our full lineup available this trip we should put up a better showing.”
UK posted a 895 team score in the tournament despite having just four golfers available to compete after a family emergency forced freshman Andy Dustman to return home before the first round. Junior Wes Furnish led the Wildcats by posting a 216 that tied him for 37th place.
