SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team wasdefeated by the 15th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday, 7-2, todrop its record to 5-4 on the season.
Notre Dame won all six singles contests to create an insurmountable leadover the Cats going into doubles competition. UK did get two doubles winsfrom the teams of Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten, the nation’s27th-ranked squad, and from Lauren Rookledge and Jill Buckley.
“Notre Dame is a great team and they played like it today,” coach MarkGuilbeau said. “We really got off to a rocky start and had our backsagainst the wall early in the singles competition. I thought we playedgreat doubles and I am pleased about that because that was really a pridecheck for us. We bounced back and showed a lot of character getting thosetwo wins and almost getting a third.”
The Cats will return to the courts Tuesday, March 7, when they play host tothe 16th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Action will begin at 2 p.m. in theHilary J. Boone Indoor Tennis Center on the UK campus. Admission is free.
