LEXINGTON, Kty. — The University of Kentucky softball team will play in the six-team ChooChoo Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. beginning Friday at 12:30 p.m. whenthe Cats take on Connecticut. UK will play host schoolTennessee-Chattanooga at 6:30 p.m. later that evening at Jim Frost Stadium.
The Cats (3-8) will play Liberty at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cats roundout the weekend Sunday when they face Marshall and Liberty at 10:30 a.m.and 12:30 p.m. respectively.
“We are really excited to play at Chattanooga this weekend, in what willbe a competitive tournament,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “Frost Stadiumis one the premier facilities in the country, and we are looking forward tohitting the field against Connecticut on Friday.”
Freshman Nikki Jones is UK’s top offensive threat with a .394 battingaverage and 13 hits. The second baseman has stolen three bases this season.Sophomore Jen Howland has been UK’s most effective pitcher, posting an ERAof 1.61 and a team-high two wins, both of which were shutouts.
