AUBURN, Ala. — The University of Kentucky women’s swimming & diving teamfinishedsixth with 332 points at the 2000 Southeastern Conference Swimming and DivingChampionships Saturday night at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. The UKmen’s team finished in eighth place with 267 points, just 14 points separatingthe Cats from fifth place.

Two school records were broken on the women’s side, while the UK men’s 400-yardfreestlye relay broke the existing school mark, as well as Eddie Clement whobroke the UK record in the 200 butterfly, the oldest record in the UK recordbook.

Senior Annabel Kosten broke her own record in the 100 freestyle, finishingfifth in a time of 49.85. Kosten’s time met the NCAA provisional time standardand bettered her old record by fourth one-hundredths of a second.Kosten was also a member of the UK record-breaking 400 freestyle relay thatfinished fourth with a time of 3:23.01. The relay team of Jaime Siegele, JennyPriester, Carolyn Rader, and Kosten met the NCAA provisional time standard andbroke the existing record of 3:24.28 set in 1999.

Rader finished fifth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.33, meeting theNCAA provisional time standard.

Melissa Olson finished sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.09,which met the NCAA “B” cut, her third NCAA cut of the meet.

Junior diver Sarah Fields placed sixth on the women’s platform diving eventwith a score of 397.40, qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet.

The UK men’s 400 freestyle relay of Shaun Zitani, David Tweedie, Macon White,and Aaron Workman broke the school mark with a time 2:57.97, more than a secondfaster than the old record of 2:59.28 set at the 1999 SEC Championships. Therelay finished fourth overall.

Freshman diver Clayton Moss recorded a fourth place finish on the men’splatform diving event with a score of 529.45, the second highest score on theplatform event in UK history. Moss has now qualified for the NCAA Zone DivingMeet in all three diving events.

“We had some real good swims over the course of the meet,” UK coachGaryConelly said. “This was just a really fast meet, but the kids stepped up andmet the challenge. We came up a few points shy on the men’s side from finishingfifth, but we had some outstanding swims.”
