AUBURN, Ala. (Feb. 18, 2000) — University of Kentuckyfreshman diver Clayton Moss recorded a score of533.65 on the 1-meter diving event to finish secondoverall. Moss’s score qualified him for the 2000NCAA Zone Diving Meet.

Juniors Macon White and Melissa Olson eachscored top eight finishes Thursday evening at theSoutheastern Conference Swimming & DivingChampionships.

White, a native of Huntington, W.Va., recorded atime of 4:23.15 in the 500-yard freestyle to finishsixth in the championship heat. White, whorecorded a personal best time of 4:22.63 in thepreliminaries, met the NCAA provisional timestandard of 4:28.57.

Olson placed seventh in the finals of the 200individual medley, recording a time of 2:03.17.Olson’s time also met the NCAA “B” cut of2:03.91. Junior Shaun Zitani swam the 50 freestylein a time of 19.98 to finish eleventh overall. Zitani’sleadoff time on the 200 freestyle relay Wednesdaynight, broke his existing school record andautomatically qualified him for the 2000 NCAAMen’s Swimming & Diving Championships.

Sophomore Carolyn Rader met the NCAA “B” cutin the 500 freestyle, winning the consolation to finishninth in a time of 4:48.15.

“This is a really fast meet, the fastest SEC meet that I can remember,” UKcoach Gary Conelly said. “We’re doing real well, having 60 to 70% lifetimebests today, but the competition is so good. We are in good shape Fridaywith a lot of our best events yet to come.”
