Kentucky is coming off a season-high point-total.
LEXINGTON, Kty. — The University of Kentucky gymnastics team takes to the road again on Saturday when it visits No. 14 North Carolina State at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.
The GymKats (3-5, 1-2) are coming off a second-place finish in last weekend’s home quad-meet with No. 7 Nebraska, Illinois and James Madison. The Huskers won the meet, edging out the Kats 195.150-194.500. Kentucky notched a season high with its team total and recorded the third highest score in school history on the floor exercise with a 49.150. The Kats were led by freshman Mindy Smith, who won the floor exercise with her career-high 9.900.
N.C. State enters the match-up strong after having a record-setting performance in last week’s Hearts Invitational in Raleigh. The Wolfpack set a school record with their team total of 196.225 to take top honors in the event. Senior Maggie Haney recorded the Pack’s first 10.0 of the season with her performance on the floor exercise. The 10.0 was only the third in N.C. State history.
“We are eager to compete against a very good N.C. State team,” Coach Leah Little said. “This weekend’s meet is very important to us, as far as national standings go. We are looking forward to bringing the best possible competition to this match-up.”
The GymKats return home on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. to take on the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide in the first of a three-meet homestand.
