The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team plays host toNo. 2/3 Georgia on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum forthe Southeastern Conference Game of the Week. The SEC matchup will betelevised live on Fox Sports Net South but is not available inLexington.

The Wildcats (12-10, 4-6) snapped a five-game losing streak witha 73-71 win over South Carolina on Sunday in Memorial Coliseum. The Catsnow look to break another streak. Georgia enters tonight’s game ridinga 10-game win streak after a 84-61 win over the Lady Gamecocks last weekin Athens. The Lady Bulldogs (24-2, 9-1) are 17-1 when playing awayfrom Athens, Ga., 5-0 on the road in Southeastern Conference play.

Last season UK defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 80-76, in Lexington,marking its first win over UGA since 1994 and Coach Bernadette Mattox’sfirst win over a ranked opponent and former coach/boss Andy Landers. TheCats hold a 6-5 advantage when playing Georgia in Memorial Coliseum.

“It looks like Coach Landers has another Final Four club,” CoachMattox, Georgia’s first female All-American and Academic All-American,said. “In fact, they are a much better team than when we beat them herelast year. They have more weapons, they play great defense and they areplaying with a lot of confidence.”

Mattox played two seasons under Landers (1979-81) and led theLady Dogs in scoring (20.6), assists (4.6) and steals (4.2) as a junior.She still ranks seventh all-time for scoring average (15.0).

Leading the Cats in scoring this season is sophomore forwardLaTonya McDole. The Dayton, Ohio native averages 12.3 points per game.She netted a team-high 16 points on Sunday and has charted double-digitscoring in five straight games. Senior center Shantia Owens isKentucky’s rebounding force, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game and 1.7blocks.

The Lady Bulldogs are led by twin sisters Kelly and Coco Miller,who average 15.8 and 14.8 ppg, respectively. Tawana McDonald followsin the scoring column with 13.0 ppg.
