LEXINGTON, Kty. – The UK women’s tennis team got back on the winning trackwhen it upped its record to 3-1 on Saturday. The Cats bounced back from arecent loss to second-ranked Florida to knock off the 27th-ranked NorthCarolina Tarheels, 5-4.

With the score tied at three after six singles matches, UK took control bywinning two of the three doubles matches en route to the victory.

Wildcat junior Brooke Skeen defeated her second nationally ranked opponentin as many days with a win over 101st-ranked Kendrick Bunn. Freshmen AmyTrefethen and Jill Buckley also picked up impressive singles victories.Both of UK’s ranked doubles teams, 23rd-ranked Carolina Mayorga and SarahWitten and 30th-ranked Brooke Skeen and Leigh Bradwell, notched wins whichproved to be the difference in the match.

“North Carolina is a very good team. This is a reflection of the rest ofour season. We have a lot of matches with teams that are ranked reallyclose to us and it will come down to one or two match-ups,” Coach MarkGuilbeau said. “Today we played with competitive fire, maturity, composureand concentration. We are really executing well. It was great to play athome in front of such a large turnout, both the team and I appreciate thelift that the fans give us when we play at home.”

The Cats will be back in action on Feb. 20, when they travel north to takeon 74th-ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor.
