LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 18 Kentucky men’s tennis team fell to the Bulldogs of Fresno State, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon at the Boone Indoor Tennis Center.
The Cats won just one of their three doubles matches. In the lone victory, Edo Bawono and Johan Grunditz defeated Fresno State’s Peter Luczak and Rob Cheyne, 8-1. The No. 40 doubles team of Johan Hesoun and Gustav Pousette fell to Andy Scorteanu and David Mullins, 8-6.
In singles action, playing at the No. 4 position, Kentucky’s Edo Bawono defeated David Mullins, 7-6, 6-3. Gustav Pousette also beat a ranked opponent, No. 54 Rob Cheyne, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 5 singles position. No. 40 Olivier Le Jeune defeated No. 9 Carlos Drada in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
“We ran into a team that’s better than us early in the season,” Associate Head Coach Ford Lankford said. “Hopefully, we will build on this loss, get better and improve from there.”
The Cats are now 2-2 in the dual match season. Next, they will compete against Arkansas on Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Fayetteville.
