Wildcats paced by Crystal Hamilton’s 1145 in smallbore.
(Jan. 23, 2000) — The University of Kentucky rifle team fell to Xavieron Saturday, Jan. 22 in a dual match held inLexington, Ky., by a final score of 6149-6050.
The Cats were led by freshman Crystal Hamiltonwho posted an 1145 in smallbore, placing third, andtied for first place with a 391 in air rifle. Senior MattNewburn made a strong return to competitionfollowing a semester off with an 1144 in smallbore.
Xavier’s Shari Jedinak won the match with acombined score of 1554, including an 1165 insmallbore.
“We didn’t notch a win today, but we are starting tocome together in a way that should really benefit usin the next two or three weeks,” Coach HarryMullins said. “I feel the team did a great job of staying focused and workingon every shot. Now we just need to keep from making small mistakes.”
The Cats are back in action on Jan. 29 when they compete in the annualWithrow Invitational in Murray, Ky.
