LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will playhost to No. 14 Louisiana State on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. TheSoutheastern Conference matchup will be televised live on Fox SportsSouth.
Both teams are coming off a win over league opponent Arkansaslast week, as Kentucky won its third-straight home game, 68-60, onSunday in Memorial Coliseum. LSU (12-3, 3-1) also defeated the Lady’Backs, winning 82-69 in Fayetteville on Jan. 13. The Lady Tigers otherconference wins came against No. 2 Georgia in Athens (80-74) and No. 20Mississippi State (61-54) at home.
The Wildcats (11-5, 3-1) are in a five-way tie for first placein the SEC and look to extend their one-game win streak over the LadyTigers. UK defeated nationally-ranked LSU last season in thequarterfinals of the SEC tournament (81-72) after losing in regularseason action, 67-59, in Baton Rouge.
“LSU is a tough, tough team, but we are capable of playing withany team in the country if we continue to focus and play consistently,”UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “This conference is brutal and everyopponent we meet will be a battle.”
The Lady Tigers are led by last season’s SEC Coach of the Year,Sue Gunter. The 36th-year veteran coach is now only the fourth coach inwomen’s basketball history to win 600 games in a career, picking up her600th win versus Arkansas.
Admission is only $5 for adults and $2 for children and seniorcitizens. Families of four of more are admitted for only $10.
