Three athletes named Great Lakes Region All-American.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 2, 1999) — Three members of theUniversity of Kentucky women’s soccer team werenamed to the Great Lakes Region All-Americanteam the National Soccer Coaches Association ofAmerica (NSCAA) announced Thursday.
Senior Allison Peppers and freshman Keri Boycewere named first-team Great Lakes RegionAll-American, while sophomore Annie Gagegarnered second-team honors.
Peppers, a native of West Chester, Ohio, playedsweeper for the Cats and was a first-teamAll-Southeastern Conference selection after startingall 21 games this season. During her four-yearcareer, Peppers started 84 of 85 games and issecond in school history in games started. Thisseason she took three shots and tallied four assists,finishing her career with three goals and 10 assists.
Boyce, a forward from Birdsboro, Pa., was namedSEC Freshman of the Year and earnedsecond-team All-SEC honors this season. Boyce,who was named the National Player of the Weekby Soccer Times for the week of Oct. 25-31, wassecond on the team in goals scored with 13 andpoints with 30, both of which are second most in asingle season by a UK player. She set the schoolrecord for game-winning goals in a season with six.
Gage, a forward from Westerville, Ohio, was afirst-team All-SEC selection by the league’scoaches and was twice named the SEC Player ofthe Week. Gage, the Cats’ leading scorer thisseason, broke the UK single-season mark for goals(15), points (39), and shots (71). After redshirting in 1998 due to a tornACL, Gage returned to break the season record for consecutive gamesscored with eight. During the eight game stretch, part of UK’s 15-gamewinning streak, she tallied seven goals and three assists.
