University of Kentucky freshman Marquis Estill underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday morning at the UK Hospital, Coach Tubby Smith announced today at his press conference.

Team physician David Caborn performed a plica debridgement on Estill, a 6-9 forward from Madison Central High School in Richmond, Ky.

“Marquis had some discomfort in his knee and has been rehabbing it since he had surgery last spring,” Coach Smith said. “Finally, the pain was unbearable, so they went in to try to clean it up.”

According to Coach Smith, there is no timetable for Estill’s return, a partial qualifier who can practice but not participate in games this season.

“This should have corrected any irritations or soreness that he had, so he will probably be able to start running and playing again soon,” Smith added.
