DeKALB, Ill. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team advanced tothe semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday, toppingEastern Michigan 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, UK defender Rob Frey scored thegame-winner less than three minutes into the second stanza, netting a five-yardshot off a Giovanni Fernandes pass at 47:23.

Keeper Brian O’Leary had a strong outing for the Cats, saving two shots whileposting his seventh shutout of the season.

“These first-round matches are always tough,” UK Coach Ian Collins said. “We’rejust happy to be moving on.”

With the win, UK improves to 11-6-1, while EMU finishes its season at 6-13.The Wildcats advance to face Western Michigan (2-14-3), 2-1 upset winners overtop seed Akron. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at the Huskie Soccer Field.
