LEXINGTON, Kty. — Freshman forward Keri Boyce was named the Southeastern Conference Playerof the Week today by the SEC office. This is the second SEC Player of theWeek honor Boyce has received this season and the fourth POW award UK hasgarnered this season.
Boyce scored the game-winning goal in both of UK’s (16-2-1, 8-1 SEC) twovictories over the weekend, breaking the UK school record for game-winninggoals in a single season with six. In the Cats’ 2-0 win over Minnesota,Boyce fired a four-yard shot that went off the left post and bounced in. OnSunday against 19th-ranked Michigan, Boyce broke a scoreless tie in thesecond overtime period when she netted a seven-yard shot to the upper leftcorner of the goal, giving the 14th-ranked Cats their 15th straight victoryof the season, a 1-0 triumph against the Wolverines.
“Keri is a very talented soccer player and has performed above ourexpectations for a freshman,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “She is certainlydeserving of this award and it also reflects on the accomplishments of ourteam.”
The Birdsboro, Pa. native, is second on the squad in goals with 12 andpoints with 28. Boyce’s 12 goals are the second most in a single-season bya UK player, second only to teammate Annie Gage’s 14 this season. Boyce’s28 points is the third highest total in single-season history.

SEC/Big Ten Challenge Postgame
UK captured first-place in the SEC/Big Ten Challenge by going undefeatedin its two games. Michigan captured second-place with a 1-1 record whileMinnesota and Alabama finished third and fourth respectively.
Named to the All-Tournament team were Boyce, Allison Peppers, Beth Wells,and Jen Reese from UK, along with Kacy Beitel, Shannon Poole, and CarissaStewart from Michigan, Nicole Lee and Dana Larson from Minnesota, and MissyKeller and Melissa McGee from Alabama.
Cats Set to Battle Georgia in SEC Tournament First-Round
On Thursday, Nov. 4, at 3:30 p.m., UK will take on Georgia (13-5-1, 5-4SEC) in the first round of the 1999 SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. UK,the No. 3 seed in this year’s conference tournament, will take on thewinner of the Ole Miss-Tennessee game in the first semifinal match onFriday should the Cats advance past UGA.
The Cats defeated the Dawgs earlier this season on Sept. 26 when UK handedthen 12th-ranked UGA a 4-1 loss in Lexington. UK is 4-1 all-time againstthe Dawgs. The two teams have never met in postseason play.
UK Holds Steady in Latest NSCAA Top-25 Poll
In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) latesttop-25 poll released on Monday, UK remained at No. 14 despite two wins inthe SEC/BIG Ten Challenge, which pushed UK’s winning streak to an amazing15 games. In the NSCAA Great Lakes Region top ten poll, the Cats remainedin second behind Notre Dame, who is ranked sixth nationally.
