The 14th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will play hostto the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, Oct. 29-31, at the UK Soccer Complex. TheWildcats will put their 13-game winning streak on the line againstMinnesota on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on 19th-ranked Michigan onSunday at 3 p.m.
Last season, the Golden Gophers knocked UK (14-2-1) out of the NCAATournament in the first-round with a 6-0 victory over the Cats in Minneapolis.
Minnesota (10-6), winners of its last three games, is led by seniorforward Nicole Lee. Lee has scored a team-high eight goals, three of whichhave been game-winners, and leads the team with 22 points. Junior forwardLaurie Seidl has tallied nine assists and 19 points this season. She ownsthree game-winning goals and has taken a team-high 56 shots.
“Minnesota knocked us out of the tournament last year and our girlshaven’t forgotten that,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “We have probably thetoughest weekend of our season this weekend with games against two topteams in Minnesota and Michigan. It’s going to be a battle, but if we playthe way we know how, then we should be successful.”
UK forwards Annie Gage, Keri Boyce, and Elizabeth Ramsey have accountedfor more than half of the Cats’ offense this season. Combined, the trio hasscored 29 of the Cats’ 45 goals and 22 of UK’s 43 assists. Gage has brokenthe single-season mark for goals (13) and points (33) this year whileRamsey has set a single-season assist record (11).
In the first game on Friday, Alabama will face Michigan at 5 p.m. OnSunday, Alabama and Minnesota will square off at 12:30 p.m., while the Catswill celebrate Senior Day against the Wolverines afterwards as four UKplayers, Allison Peppers, Brooke Hergesell, Hope Deutschle, and DeannaStayton, will be honored before the game.
