Kicker Brandon Sanders nailed a 43-yard field goal with six secondsremaining in the game to give the University of Kentucky junior varsityfootball team a 45-42 win over the Georgetown JV in Commonwealth Stadium onMonday.

The Cats, who defeated Georgetown 35-28 earlier this year, scored 25unanswered points in the fourth quarter to claw their way back from a 42-20third-quarter deficit.

UK tied the game 42 apiece on an eight-yard pass from quarterback MikeScipione to Alvin Takeshita with five minutes left in the game. After anunsuccessful 35-yard field goal attempt by Georgetown’s Jason Coy with 1:56remaining, the Cats took over on downs from their own 20-yard line.Driving down the field, the Tiger defense stopped UK on fourth and nine andforced the Cats to kick a field goal with six seconds left on the clock.Sanders nailed the 43-yarder to seal the win and give the Cats their fourthstraight win of the season.

“These kids never gave up. It was awesome,” UK Coach Sonny Dykes said.”We hung in there and believed we could win. We got some good breakstonight and took advantage of them.”

The Cats’ running game seemed sluggish with the absence of Hopkinsvillenative Artose Pinner. Pinner, who saw action in UK’s varsity game Saturdayversus LSU, did not dress versus Georgetown.

“We missed Artose out there early, but I thought Jonathan Chapman reallycame through for us tonight,” Dykes said.

Chapman led the ground game with 10 carries for 25 yards and twotouchdowns. He also charted one receiving touchdown. The Cats rushed fora mere six yards compared to the Tigers’ 162 yards. However, UK dominatedthe passing game, netting 545 yards in the air to Georgetown’s 294.Scipione led the offensive attack, throwing 19-of-32 for 361 yards, fourtouchdowns, a pair of two-point conversions and one interception. Widereceiver Edgar Gantt led all receivers with 13 catches for 207 yards andone touchdown. UK quarterback Mark Perry also looked impressive,completing 21-of-28 passes for 184 yards.

Danville native Lance Southworth recorded 10 tackles, including twotackles for loss to lead the Cats defensively.

UK will travel to Campbellsville for its last game of the season on Oct.25 at 3 p.m. in Campbellsville, Ky.
