LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite dominating action for 120 minutes, the University of Kentuckymen’s soccer team settled for a tie with 19th-ranked Akron on Sunday, asthe two teams posted a 1-1 draw at the UK Soccer Complex.

UK held an 18-3 shot advantage and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, but couldnot put away the pesky Zips.

Lee Baker put the Cats on the board in the 21st minute, finding the opennet off assists from Ryan Grady and Chris McDaniel.

The Zips struck back quickly however, as a Kentucky defensive miscueallowed UA’s Torbjorn Birkeland to break free on a one-on-one with Wildcatkeeper Brian O’Leary in the 23rd minute. Birkeland made the most of hischance, evening the score at 1-1 and breaking O’Leary’s conferencescoreless streak at 510 minutes.

With the tie, the Cats stretch their unbeaten streak to six matches and uptheir record to 9-3-1, 4-0-1 in the MAC. UK still holds a slight half-matchlead over the Zips (8-3-2, 3-0-1 MAC) for first place in the conference.

The Cats next turn their attention to No. 1 Indiana. UK travels toBloomington to face the top-ranked Hoosiers on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m.
