CINCINNATI, Ohio – Behind a solid effort by three of UK?s most experiencedgolfers, the men?s golf team posted a final-round 294 on Tuesday for a score of875 at the Xavier Invitational, earning the Cats a season-best fourth placefinish. The team?s two-day score of 875 (298-283-294) is its lowest total ofthe fall season.

UK sophomore John Beckett shot a final-round 72 to finish the tourney in 10thplace with a UK season-best total of 216 (73-71-72). Beckett entered the day in13th place and finished one stroke ahead of Ron Layman who posted a final-round75 for the Cats. Layman had a two-day score of 217 (71-71-75) and finished in12th place. Winding up one stroke behind Layman was junior Wes Furnish whoimproved with each round to shoot a 218 (75-72-71). Furnish placed 13th, makingthis the first time in three fall matches that a trio of UK golfers finished inthe top 15.

On Monday, Andy Dustman posted a second-round 69, making the freshman the firstUK golfer to break 70 this fall. The Wildcats stood in fourth place afterMonday?s first two rounds by recording a season-best opening day score of 581(298-283). The second-round 283 stands as the best single-round score for theCats this season. Layman was the day-one leader for the Cats after shooting tworounds of 71 for a one day total of 142, good for a tie at 8th among allcompetitors.
