LEXINGTON, Kty. –The 24th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will travel upInterstate-75 to play the Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday, Oct. 7. The matchat Meyers Field will begin at 6 p.m.

UK (8-2-1) is coming off a 3-2 victory over San Diego State last Sunday inLas Vegas, Nev., and will put its seven-game winning streak on the lineagainst the Bearcats A victory over UC (5-6) would break the UK record forconsecutive games won.

Friday’s game against UC will be a homecoming of sorts for seven membersof the squad who hail from the Cincinnati area. A large contingent of Catfans are expected with as a total of fifteen players on the UK squad arenatives of the Buckeye state.

“It’s great to be able to go home and play in front of your family andfriends because you don’t get to see them that much,” junior defender EmilyOetjen said. “It gives you the chance to show them how strong Kentuckysoccer is.”

“I’m excited because we are big rivals with UC,” junior midfielder MargoHafer said. “We have a lot of players from Cincinnati so I think it isgoing to help having a lot of fans there.”

Allison Peppers, a native of West Chester, Ohio, who played at Lakota HighSchool just outside Cincinnati, said the team with the most intensity earlyin the match will have the upper hand.

“Cincinnati is a big rival for us,” the senior defender said. “Whoevercomes out and is ready to play will come out on top because our games withthem are not always the prettiest.”

Cincinnati leads the all-time series against UK, 4-3, with the Catswinning the last meeting, 2-1 in overtime last season in Lexington.
