Thursday Practice Notes: Here are some notes from Coach HalMumme and Coach Mike Major following Thursday’s two and one-half hourpractice, split between Nutter Training Center and CommonwealthStadium.

Redshirt freshman Edgar Gantt received several repetitions at tightend. Coach Mumme noted that Gantt “had played very well in the twojunior varsity games, catching about 15 passes,” and that Gantt would bethe backup tight end in some offensive sets.

Mumme reported that junior fullback Derek Homer had another good weekof practice.

Freshman defensive tackle William Orr continues to make progress,Major said, and that it would be a game-day decision for Orr or JimmyHaley to get the starting nod against Arkansas.

Sophomore free safety Anthony Wajda, who sustained a bruised foot onTuesday, was on the practice field but did not take part in any liverepetitions. He stayed behind the defensive backfield and imitated hisassignments during the scout team drills. “We didn’t want to take achance of somebody stepping on his foot,” Major explained. “He’ll starton Saturday.”
