LEXINGTON, Ky. — UK (1-0-1) will play host to the 8th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers onSunday, Sept. 5 at the UK Soccer Complex. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
The Cornhuskers (3-0) come to town on a roll having won their first threegames of the season. NU has not allowed a goal in their first three gamesof the season and are ranked as high as No. 5 nationally by Soccer Buzz.
The highly explosive Huskers boast four players who played on the 1999Canadian Women’s World Cup Team led by defender Isabelle Morneau. Morneauwas named the Big 12 Conference Tournament Defensive MVP and earned NSCAAsecond-team All-America honors last season. A three-year started for NU,Morneau became the first and only player in Big 12 history to earnfirst-team all-conference honors at three different positions.
Senior forward Lindsay Eddleman is the Cornhuskers’ top returning scorerafter recording 11 goals and five assists in 1998. Eddleman, an NSCAAsecond-team All-America selections, leads NU this season with two goals andone assist.
Karina LeBlanc, a member of the 1999 Canadian World Cup Team, returnsbetween the posts and has posted 18 career shutouts in her first two seasonin a Husker uniform. Last season, LeBlanc ranked 17th nationally with a0.70 goals-against average and allowed just 14 goals in 1,802 minutes ofaction.
Seniors Sharolta Nonen and Amy Walsh were also members of the 1999Canadian Women’s World Cup Team. Nonen was an NSCAA second-teamAll-America selection while Walsh was starter on the World Cup squad.
UK is coming off a 3-1 victory over Xavier Friday evening in Cincinnati.
The Cats will counter with a talented squad led by senior defender AllisonPeppers. Peppers was a second-team All-SEC and SEC All-Tournamentselection last season and has started 65 of 66 games during her UK career.
Highly-touted freshman Keri Boyce leads the UK attack having scored a goalin each of the Cats’ first two games of the season. In her first collegiategame, Boyce scored the game-tying goal against Evansville on an assist fromAimee Brown.
The Cats and Huskers have met once before when NU came away with a 3-0victory in Lincoln, Neb. in 1997.
