PRINCETON, N.J. – The Gazelle Group is pleased toannounce the match-ups and times for the inaugural Coaches vs. CancerChallenge women’s basketball tournament. Four of college basketball’sbest teams — Connecticut, Old Dominion, Clemson and Kentucky — willface each other at the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge on November 24th and26th, 1999 at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Conn.

The match-ups are as follows:

Wednesday, November 24, 5:00 p.m. (EST) – Clemson (26-6) vs. OldDominion (28-4) followed by Connecticut (29-5) vs. Kentucky (21-11).

Friday, November 26, 1:30 p.m. – Consolation game followed bychampionship game.

“The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and its members areproud to be a part of such a worthwhile and prestigious event as theCoaches vs. Cancer Challenge. All four teams participating in thisyear’s event competed in last year’s NCAA Tournament, and are expectedto have banner campaigns this season,” said WBCA Executive Director BethBass. “The women’s basketball community was recently humbled by thedeath of Kim Perrot (Houston Comets) who died after battling cancer.The WBCA itself has lost members to this dreadful disease, and I knowour coaches feel strongly about helping in the search for a cure.”

The Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge will complement the men’s version ofthe tournament, the Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic as the nationallaunch of over 500 men’s and women’s college basketball coaches’ effortsin the fight against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a partnershipbetween the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, the NationalAssociation of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the American Cancer Societywhich was formed in 1994 to help raise awareness about the dangers oftobacco use among America’s youth. To date, Coaches vs. Cancer hasraised over 10 million dollars and proceeds from this event will benefitthe American Cancer Society.
