LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated Wright State, 1-0,in an exhibition match this afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex.

Freshman Elizabeth Ramsey broke a scoreless tie early in the second half asshe netted a five-yard shot inside the goalie box for the game’s only goal.

The Cats had seventeen shots in the game compared to WSU’s two shots as theRaiders’ offense was stymied by the UK defense. UK also had nine cornerkicks compared to just two for WSU.

“We started tentative in the first half, but we made some adjustments inthe second half,” UK head coach Warren Lipka said afterwards. “We becamemore deliberate and settled down. We are looking forward to preparing forour first game next Sunday.”

UK will open the regular season on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. when theWildcats play host to the Evansville Purple Aces at the UK Soccer Complex.
