First Day of Full Team Practice: The Kentucky football team hadits first two practices on Friday with a pair of two-hour workouts atNutter Training Center.
Coach Hal Mumme was pleased to get back on the field, but nonetoo happy with the play of his veteran wide receivers, as there wereseveral dropped passes during the practice.
“I’m really disappointed in our receivers, but at least some ofthe young guys, such as Dougie Allen and Brad Pyatt, looked good,” Mummesaid. “Coach Major (defensive coordinator Mike Major) said the defensehad a good day, so that’s a plus.”
Several offensive players missed some or all of the afternoonpractice. Junior wide receiver Garry Davis has a bruised knee, sophomore wide receiver Vince Harrison has a strained hamstring, freshman wide receiver Derek Abney has a strained hamstring, junioroffensive guard Aaron Daniel has a strained back, freshman tight endBobby Blizzard was ill, and junior kicker Seth Hanson has a strainedquadriceps. None of the injuries appear to be long-term.
On the bright side, sophomore kicker Marc Samuel looked good inHanson’s absence. Samuel made two out of two field goal attempts at theconclusion of the morning practice and two of two again at the end ofthe afternoon workout.
“Coach Bassett (kicking coach Claude Bassett) has done a goodjob with the kickers and Marc has shown improvement,” Mumme said.
