LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team edged South Alabama 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday at the UK Soccer Complex. South Alabama (6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute, when UK defender Todd Stonestreet deflected a shot between the UK posts for an own goal. The Cats (3-5) refused to roll over, as Brent Rainey tied the game on a header in the 72nd minute.

The two teams remained tied at 1-1 through the end of regulation and one overtime, but in the 116th minute, Rainey found an open Billy Dwyer inside the Jaguars’ box. Dwyer wasted no time as he blasted a shot past South Alabama goalkeeper Arve Warholm to give UK the victory.

The Wildcats put their three-game win streak on the line tomorrow, when they battle Vanderbilt at 3 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
