Hunter Spencer has signed a national letter of intent to run for the men’strack team at the University of Kentucky, track and field coach Don Weberhas announced.
Spencer, a senior at E.O. Smith High School, won three Connecticut statetrack titles in 1998. In the 1.600 meters, Spencer ran a time of 4:17.16and in the 800 meters, he ran a 1:54.83. He and his teammates also won the4x800-meter relay. He was named the 1998 Gatorade Track and Field Athleteof the Week for the state of Connecticut.
The Willington, Conn., native was also a starting guard on the statesemi-final basketball team and started at the center-half position on thestate championship soccer team.
“Hunter is a very gifted and versatile athlete who has excelled in soccerand basketball, as well as track and field, in high school,” Weber said.”Hunter’s potential as a middle-distance runner is untapped. Based uponhis performances as a high school junior, he is one of the very best highschool middle-distance runners in the nation.”
